This special workerà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬s day date back to 1882 when it was first proposed by Matthew Maguire, machinist, while serving as CLUà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬s (Central Labor Union) secretary. After a shocking number of deaths of workers at the hands of the US marshals and US military, it was unanimously voted by the United States Congress to approve the rushed legislation that resulted to the Labor Day. Since then, it is honored by many countries as a special day for workers of performing a number of activities as will be explained.Labor Day is honored for a number o f reasons. Firstly, ità ¢Ã¢â€š ¬s a day when workers ask about their safety. A worker has got the right to a safe workplace. It is, therefore, not a favor, but a legal right entitled to all workers. Harassments like being teases; sexual elements, etc. are checked on this day. However, donà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬t wait until this day to report such harassments but make them to your supervisor immediately. Labor Day also ensures that workers get paid as long as they work. The day also ensures that no one is trapped in the office for more than the normal eight hours limit (Kazin et. al, 1992). For others, it merely observed as a day off work and therefore they go out with their families to find a good recreational facility. For such kind of people, it is mainly a day of rest that provides a chance to hold outdoor events and make trips.
